"Big Week" is the fourth episode of season 3 of the Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso. It premiered on April 5, 2023.
Synopsis[]
Everyone’s feeling the pressure as Richmond gear up to play West Ham. Ted is reunited with an old friend.
Plot[]
Jamie is awoken by Roy banging on the door, ready for training at 4am. After arguing about the time, Jamie gets dressed. Meanwhile, Nate is planning the formation for the Richmond versus West Ham game with a Subbuteo set. Ted is in bed and wakes up to Sassy getting dressed. She turns down Ted’s interest in dating her, saying Ted is a mess and she would prefer to have a more casual relationship.
In Keeley’s office, Rebecca reads that Rupert is pleased to see his old club again. Shandy goes to Nelson Road Stadium to kick off a new Bantr project. Barbara enters wanting two tickets to Richmond’s game with West Ham, with Jack Danvers in attendance. In the coaching office, Roy and Beard go over plans for formations they can use against West Ham, trying to outthink Nate. They decide on a plan but Higgins points out whether Zava would like that, causing fury from Roy and Beard who vent with Ted later. He calms the situation down, saying a solution will present itself. The Diamond Dogs are convened, with the absence of Roy, to discuss Ted and Sassy. Beard agrees Ted is a mess and also argues that head should be more focused on defeating Nate, and indeed should be hurt by what Nate did to him which Ted says he is not. In the Richmond dressing room, players are concerned about the game, and Jamie says the players need to calm down and focus. Isaac taps the Believe sign and half of it begins to collapse. The players deduce it had been ripped in half and put back together, much to the interest of Trent Crim,. Nate walks into his favourite restaurant and Derek, the restaurant manager, greets Nate with enthusiasm and gives Nate the food he ordered for free.
At Nelson Road, Shandy is doing a Bantr shoot and Keeley arrives as Jamie does his piece to camera. Shandy asks Keeley more about him, where Keeley notes how he is much improved since before. That night, Beard and Roy show Ted a video of Nate ripping the Believe sign before he left Richmond. They believe Ted should show this to the players to motivate them, but Ted is unsure and sends the coaches home. At the London Stadium, Nate discusses with Rupert how he feels he owes Ted an apology for how he left and Rupert says that’s not necessary. Meanwhile Ted replies to a text from Michelle about Richmond making headlines in the US and he also reviews texts from Jacob Bryansan when he was their marriage counselor. Rebecca tells Ted she really wants Richmond to win. She asks if Ted is okay to which he asks her if she thinks he is a mess. She thinks he is, but that’s why the pair get along.
The next day, Richmond arrive for the game against West Ham. Keeley is nervous about meeting Jack and goes to the toilet beforehand where she has an issue and someone from the cubicle next door provides her with some help. Ted gets into a lift with some West Ham staff and as they exit, he is left in there with Nate. Ted greets him enthusiastically and Nate is about to apologise before being interrupted by Rupert, which causes Nate to walk away. Keeley arrives at the VIP event and is surprised by Jack’s appearance and also that she is the same one who met Keeley in the cubicle earlier. In The Crown & Anchor, a West Ham fan walks in, a friend of Baz, and is ordered out by Mae.
At the start of the game, Ted goes to shake Nate’s hand and talk with him, but Nate quickly shakes it and walks away. West Ham go 1-0 up and then quickly go 2-0 up before half time. Rebecca is furious and sees Ted during half time to try to inspire him. Back in the dressing room, Ted sees the coaches have shown the players the video of Nate tearing down the “Believe” sign. This gets them angry and they go out on to the pitch, glaring at Nate as they walk past. The Richmond players play more aggressively, with more tackles which causes three players to be sent off and an eventual result of Richmond losing 4-1. Rebecca is furious and sees Rupert with his secretary, cheating on Bex. Ted sees Roy and Beard, where the pair want Ted to punish them, and are frustrated when he doesn’t. Ted takes the USB drive from them with the video of Nate on. During the post match interview, Nate realises he never shook Ted’s hand and goes to do it but is interrupted by an invitation to a celebration event hosted by Rupert. Rebecca talks to Rupert before he leaves, saying she knows he cheated and that he needs to do better. Keeley apologises to Jack for Richmond’s performance and Shandy then reveals to her the inappropriate change to Bantr which brought in more followers. Keeley wants Shandy to change this.
Nate arrives at the party hosted by Rupert and is introduced to Anastasia Orlov - someone Rupert wants Nate to get to know. Roy goes to get Jamie for training and he enthusiastically runs out the door to get started. Ted calls Michelle, where he tells her his feelings about her relationship with Dr Jacob.
