Boot was a word with different meanings in the United States and the United Kingdom. Those differences were so profound the they amused Ted greatly, becoming instant fodder for his frequent wordplay with Coach Beard.
In the UK, boot meant the trunk of one's car, and also what Americans would refer to as "cleats". But in both countries, boot was also a verb meaning to get kicked out of something,
This realisation made Lasso and Beard have a little fun with each other:
- Lasso: If I were to get fired from my job where I'm puttin' cleats in the trunk of my car ...
- Beard: You got the boot from puttin' boots in the boot.
- Lasso: I love that!
