FIFA 23 is a football video game published by EA Sports and also features fictional club AFC Richmond and their stadium Nelson Road from the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso.
It is the 30th and final installment in the FIFA series that is developed by EA Sports, and released worldwide on 30 September 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
History[]
Listed in Guinness World Records as the best-selling sports video game franchise in the world, the game is the final under the 29-year partnership between EA and FIFA. Future football games by EA are named under the banner of EA Sports FC. The reason of changing the name from FIFA to EA Sports FC is because EA lost the FIFA license in late 2023.
FIFA 23 contains over 30 licensed leagues, over 100 licensed stadiums, over 700 clubs and more than 19,000 players. The game retains the players' likenesses, but the official badge, kits and stadiums are replaced with custom designs and generic stadiums created by EA Sports.
The game is the final game in the partnership between EA and FIFA on the football series. Future football games by EA without the inclusion of the FIFA name are set to be named under the banner of EA Sports FC.
Ted Lasso[]
FIFA 23 - Official Ted Lasso Trailer
The World’s Game FIFA 23 has included AFC Richmond as a part of their roster, available in several modes of the game alongside iconic clubs. The newest release of the annual FIFA series revealed AFC Richmond team as a playable group among the superstar legends of professional soccer, including Ted Lasso.
FIFA 23 released a video game trailer where a lot of celebrities, coaches, and players are making some cameos and talking about Ted Lasso; an American coach who doesn't know anything about soccer but chosen to lead Richmond Football club in England.
Some of the celebrities cameos are including Wayne Rooney and Ian Wright, who talks about how it doesn't matter that Ted Lasso knows anything about football as long that he has a heart. Characters from the show makes the appearance including Trent Crimm and Roy Kent, who said that "everyone can't help but rooting for him." Roy and then added that he's a great manager and a great man, but then threatens to kill the interviewer if he tells Ted.
The trailer then shows Ted walking to the stadium and he turns into a computer generated video game version of himself.
Ted's voice-over is heard as he said, "EA Sports. I'm in the game. Oooh!"
Play As The Characters[]
Computer generated Ted Lasso
Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso is selectable manager in FIFA 23 Career Mode. Players can keep him at AFC Richmond or move him to the team of their choice. Players can even join the Greyhounds as themselves in a player career.
Players of FIFA 23 will be able to authentically take control of AFC Richmond across multiple game modes including Career Mode, Kickoff, Online Friendlies, and Online Seasons. A number of AFC Richmond items including kits, tifos, Manager items, and other content will also be available to unlock across FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) and Pro Clubs where applicable.
Accessing Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond in FIFA 23 does not take long in modes like Quick Play or Online Seasons. Simply finding AFC Richmond under the Rest of the World section when selecting a team allows players to take control of Ted Lasso's team. Career and Ultimate Team modes are a bit more complex, however, and players have to put in a bit more effort finding Richmond's associated items, characters, and cosmetics.
Ted Lasso, Coach Beard, and the biggest stars of the AFC Richmond squad including Jamie Tartt, Dani Rojas, Sam Obisanya, Roy Kent, and Isaac McAdoo all authentically integrated into FIFA 23, along with Nelson Road–the club’s home ground. One of the game’s great motivators, players be able to select Ted Lasso as your playable manager in Career Mode, or you can manage AFC Richmond by swapping them into the Premier League or any other playable Career Mode league. In order to access Ted Lasso in Career Mode, players must create a New Manager using the options within that mode.
The Dogtrack
Once that's done, they can find Ted Lasso as an option under Rest of the World, which then leads to some customization before AFC Richmond then becomes optional as well.
Players may choose whatever League to play in, but those looking for an experience authentic to the show might bump them up into the Premier League straight away, as there are many start athletes on Richmond's squad.
Several of the show's characters, like captain Roy Kent, Danny Rojas, and Jaime Tartt, appear in FIFA's most graphically realistic entry yet. Some players who may want to build a player for Richmond instead of Lasso as a manager need only to go through the "Swap Teams" option when creating a character before choosing AFC Richmond under Rest of the World to start a Career under Ted Lasso's command.
