Midfielder is a position in UK Football and players who play in this position often dictate play, who make important passes to the strikers nearest the opposition goal or back to the safety of defenders who can pass to someone else to continue the attack. Midfielders have to pass the ball extensively and require a lot of successful passes to fulfill their role.
In the Apple TV+ show, Ted Lasso, Roy is an experienced midfielder for AFC Richmond, who used to play for Champions League winners Chelsea F.C.. He is seen as the backbone of AFC Richmond according to head coach Ted Lasso and he orchestrates proceedings in the midfield. There came a time however, where Roy was making mistakes in midfield and not executing passes very well which led to Richmond not scoring as many goals. As a result, Roy was substituted for another player which shows the importance of midfielders and goalscoring.
