Richard Montlaur is a main recurring character featured in the Apple TV+ show, Ted Lasso, and a Left Midfielder player for AFC Richmond. He is seen with other team members and even participates in group activities such as karaoke and dancing in clubs. He usually hangs out with other players such as Dani Rojas, Jan Maas, Thierry Zoreaux, Colin Hughes, Isaac McAdoo, Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya, and Moe Bumbercatch. Before his time in the current club, he used to play for Newcastle United F.C.
Talented Himbo Player[]
Despite his sometimes innocent remarks, he is a talented football player who'd show manipulative tricks to get away with the rules. He is shown to do some theatrics on the field during a match against Manchester City F.C., pretending to be hurt, which is usually encouraged by Coach Beard, and analyzed by the game commentators such as Arlo White and Chris Powell.
Richard is a handsome man who usually dates beautiful women. During a 'ghost cleansing' ceremony in the club's locker room, he cries that he has to throw away his most precious item into a bin, which is a vial of sand from the beaches of St. Barts, where he slept with a supermodel for the first time. An experience he cherishes so much, it pains him to sacrifice the item. He brings a date to Leslie Higgins family Christmas dinner and claims that bringing a beautiful woman to an event will bring some luck.
He is close with other team players and spends some time with them by going to the clubs and karaoke. He drives an orange Lamborghini which is usually parked next to Colin's green Lamborghini.
The Angry French Man[]
Richard speaks English with a heavy French accent. When he gets angry, he'd curse in French, with many of his team players can't understand except Thierry Zoreaux who usually translates his curses. He cursed out Jamie Tartt after his return to the club by exposing his bullying ways. Apparently, Jamie used to fart into his hand and put it in front of his face. After a while he and the rest of the team warm up to Jamie and accept him as one of their friends.
In the FA Cup semi-final match against Manchester City F.C., Richard got a red card for a hard foul.
When Zava joins Richmond, just like most other team members, he is very smitten and in awe to see the superstar player in the locker room. And when the new player brings numerous goals, he and the rest of the players start following his lifestyle by doing some meditations.
During the match against West Ham United F.C., Richmond loses at the first half-time game. To inspire the team, the coaches , without Ted Lasso, show them a video of Nate ripping the BELIEVE sign in half, but it backfired as the players are pissed and they starts to play rough and chaotic.
Richard aggressively tackles a player and tries to rip their kit off, and then hurls a ball very hard against an opponent player named O'Neill. He tries to pick a fight against several players and has to be carried away by his Captain, Isaac. The referee gives him a red card and he's out of the game. Football commentator Arlo White even says that Richard has lost his mind.
The French Cavalier[]
Richmond visits Amsterdam for an Exhibition Match (Friendlies Match) against AFC Ajax, and Ted Lasso tells everyone to have fun in Amsterdam for the whole night to lift their spirits, which actually makes him excited. Team captain Isaac McAdoo tells everyone to meet up in the lobby of their hotel so they can decide where to go and what to do.
At the lobby of their hotel, the team can't decide where are they going to do. Jan Maas offers they go to a private party at Groningen which makes some of them object because it takes two hours to go the party. Richard suggests that they should go to Paris instead spending a night in Amsterdam. Thierry insists that they should see a live sex show, and Dani suggests that they should having Dutch food for dinner in which Richard angrily yells that he refuse to eat Dutch food.
Richard weeps while deleting the pictures
They spend the whole night arguing, discussing, and voting where to go and what to do, when the whole team finally decides to have a pillow fight at the lobby of their hotel. In the morning, Richard and the team's spirit are lifted and they go home to England with a better mood.
When many nude photos of celebrities are leaked on the internet, the team discusses whether they should delete their photos from their phones. Colin Hughes thinks that deleting photos makes no sense because it feels like deleting their memories, but many other players disagree. Richard asks whether he should delete pictures because he's French, as French culture usually appreciate any form of nudity, and everyone answers that he should delete them.
It's not until Sam Obisanya informs that their friend Keeley Jones's pictures are among the leaked ones and are now spread all over the internet that Richard decides to delete his own pictures and not arguing anymore, but he does it while weeping.
