Robbie Williams was the originally-scheduled singer at the 10th Annual Benefit for Underprivileged Children. Although he was on first-name terms with Rupert Mannion, Williams cancelled on the day of the benefit, which left Higgins scrambling to find a replacement. In the end, the singer was replaced with Cam Cole, a street performer who busked close to Ted Lasso's house.
Mannion apparently had Williams' private number, because he bragged to Ted that he could "get [Williams'] ass over here" with a text. In fact, Ted intimated that Rupert had actually texted Williams earlier in the day to persuade Williams not to come to the event.
Behind the scenes[]
Though less well-known in the United States, Williams is a real-life British superstar. He is a kind of MacGuffin for the episode, "For the Children", in which he never appears but is frequently mentioned.
"Kids", a song by Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue, plays at the end of the episode and over the credits.
