Snooker is a cue sport commonly played around the world, made popular in the UK and Asia. Similar to another American cue sport, Pool, snooker involves potting balls on a table into pockets to accrue points. A player must pot a red followed by a colour in sequence to continue a break (a sequence of shots) with the aim of keeping their opponent away from the table. If a player has accrued more points than are available on the table and their opponent chooses to not play on for foul points, they win the frame. Highly successful snooker players include Ronnie O'Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, and Steve Davis.
In the Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso, Ted referred to the sport as a "billiard game that sounds like a brand of cookies". He commented how he'd like to curl up on a couch and devour a box of "snookers". This was before he defeated Rupert Mannion in a game of darts.
Note: Snooker is also defined as an attempt to trick, entrap, or entice. Arguably, this takes an intentional double meaning, as Ted is at the moment he uses the word about to “snooker” Rupert Mannion.
